MEET THE WOMAN, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND…

“I tried being normal once. Worst three minutes of my life!”

— So what’s it like to work with me?

It took me a long time to find my style when it comes to photographing families. For the longest time I think I was shooting the way I thought my client would want to be photographed and I wasn’t enjoying it. I didn’t enjoy it because it felt stiff, forced and to be completely honest totally unnatural. I was constantly asking myself why I even kept working with families and how the heck were other photographers getting all these small children to sit still and smile for the camera?!! I can’t say when it all came together for me but at some point I said forget this and started photographing families my way. The real way. The fun way.

The fun way is letting go and allowing yourself to enjoy the moment. My philosophy when it comes to kids is to let them be kids. This means that if I come up with an idea and I am trying to pose everyone and your child just isn’t into it then it’s time to let go of this idea and allow for the next idea to flow. Your job is to have fun. Play with your children, laugh with your partner and stop trying to force anyone, yourself included into any expectation. If you have kids then you know it requires much pivoting and compromise. Your family photos with me are no different. I am not trying to create the perfect photo of you because perfection can be boring. There is beauty in the mess and there is joy to be had if you allow it. The moments you spend in front of my camera with your children are fleeting. I want those occasions to become happy memories for you and especially for your children. I want kids to know that seeing me means having fun and that we don’t need to do a bunch of stiff and awkward portraits. I wanna see that weird face. I want to watch your kids climb, jump, explore and genuinely laugh. And most of all, I want to see parents relax because they get what I am going for in the end result.

If you think you’re ready to go with the flow and roll with the punches or in most cases of small children, roll with the tantrums and selective hearing then I am most certainly your girl. You can call JC Penney and Sears for those “other” portraits. I’ll be here photographing the real and the real fun. So do you think you’re ready?
